Proteins

Proteins are natural polymer molecules. They are made up of amino acid units. They may be made up of several thousand amino acid units. Other than lipids and carbohydrates proteins are essential biochemical molecules required for the proper functioning of the human body. Proteins form the major structural components of both human and animal tissue. The specific sequence of amino acids in the protein is known as the primary protein structure. Correct sequence of amino acids is very important in peptides and proteins for proper functioning. The incorrect amino acid sequence in a protein may lead to fatal consequences. Diseases like sickle cell anemia are caused by improper protein structures. The process of synthesis of the correct sequence of amino acids in proteins is guided by the genetics of DNA and RNA.
